post fifty: the police and punk.

The Police are always going to be a classic group, and they will never die. I loved listening to them in class today; they're a really good listen, and it's something I can jam out to; tap my foot and feel the rhythm.
The other punk artists we listened to (Patti Smith, Sex Pistols, etc) were all, surprisingly, my favourite part of this class. (Obviously besides The Beatles and Pet Sounds) I really enjoyed listening to it and I wasn't wanting to pull a Van Gogh on both ears like I was with some songs we've listened to in this class. (Faith Hill's Piece of my Heart, Norwegian death metal, Captain Beefheart, etc).
I think it's because there can be slower punk songs, faster ones, songs that sound a little more metal-ish, songs that have a semi-pop sound to them, there's a lot of different ways that you can do punk and it still sounds good. Even the Ramones, you don't know what they're saying but damn do they sound good.
All in all, I've really enjoyed this week.
